Meet Carly Bowden

Founder and Lead Trainer at CBowden’s Valley Dog School

Carly Bowden is the owner and lead trainer behind CBowden’s Valley Dog School.

Her life and career have always revolved around dogs.

Carly has had a passion for animals since childhood. She always knew she wanted to work with animals, and that dream became a reality when she entered the dog care industry in 2007. She began as a kennel attendant at a boarding facility, where she also had the opportunity to shadow a professional groomer for a year.

In 2009, Carly accepted a position at a local boarding and training facility after the first facility moved locations. That opportunity became a major turning point in her career and opened the door to professional dog training.

While working there, Carly had the invaluable opportunity to apprentice under two experienced, well-established dog trainers. She spent years observing lessons, assisting with training dogs, helping oversee progress, and learning how to support both dogs and their families through the training process.

Before taking on her own clients, Carly gained hands-on experience in private lessons and board and train programs for family pets, and occasionally sport dogs. This gave her the chance to work with many different breeds, temperaments, learning styles, and behavioral challenges in a real training environment.

Around 2012, Carly became the head trainer at the facility. After her mentors retired, she eventually moved on and began training from home. That decision later grew into what is now CBowden’s Valley Dog School.

With nearly two decades of hands-on experience, Carly has worked with thousands of dogs throughout her career. Since opening CBowden’s Valley Dog School in 2015, she has helped hundreds, if not thousands, of dogs and families throughout the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas.

Carly has titled her personal dogs, explored several dog sports, attended seminars and workshops, and continues to build her knowledge through real-world experience and continuing education. While she values education, she also believes some of the most important lessons come from years of daily hands-on work with dogs and their people.

As a trainer, Carly is not bound by one single tool, technique, or training philosophy. She is open-minded, communicative, and committed to using practical, fair, and effective training methods to achieve the best possible results for each dog and handler team.

Whether the goal is raising a well-mannered puppy, creating a more reliable house pet, improving obedience, building confidence, or addressing serious behavior concerns, Carly tailors her approach to fit the individual dog’s needs.

Her greatest passion has always been helping everyday families gain a better relationship with their dogs. She enjoys helping dogs earn more freedom and trust through clear communication, structure, reliable obedience, and owner education.

Over the years, Carly has also helped rescue organizations in Northern Virginia by training misunderstood dogs and helping educate adopters so those dogs could transition more successfully into their new homes.

Carly’s path may not have been built through letters after her name, but through mentorship, daily hands-on experience, continuing education, and a deep commitment to helping both dogs and their people. She is forever grateful for the professionals who mentored her and helped shape her into the trainer she is today.

For Carly, this is not just a job. It is the only work she has ever known, and the work she always knew she was meant to do.
